Glossy pictures, also known as poetry pictures, were just as popular around 100 years ago as collectible pictures for football championships were in the 1980s. While the collectible pictures are stuck into albums as stickers, the glossy pictures only have a simple paper backing. Adhesive is therefore always needed to attach them.

The glossy pictures are printed in a special process called colour lithography. Painted pictures are usually used as motifs. These are broken down into their individual colours. When printing with stone plates, the motif is composed of up to 25 colours. In addition, elevations are often punched into the motifs to give them a 3D effect.

The glossy images are usually arranged coherently as sheets. The different images are held together with small paper joints. For use, the motifs must therefore be separated manually.

To give the pictures a special value, they are sometimes sprinkled with mica in silver and gold. Typical motifs in the romantic style are based on holidays and Christmas and Easter, tell fairy tales or depict animals and plants.
